On February 28th, GCNAACP leadership (President Devin Barroga, Vice President Shawnna Stringfellow, and Secretary Janet Tupper) met with Garrett County Sheriff Bryson Meyers. He graciously gave us a tour of the facilities and then sat down with us to discuss opening a door of communication & collaboration. During the discussion, Sheriff Meyers shared with us his plans for improving the Garrett County Police Department’s efforts to boost transparency (including new body cameras), safeguard all GC residents & visitors, and overall implementations to better serve the community (including mental health and drug issues). We appreciate the Sheriff for taking the time to connect with us. GCNAACP is planning on having further meetings with county police, as well as inviting the Sheriff and other representatives to future meetings and events. This is a great first step to building a positive working relationship with our local police officers.
