Garrett County NAACP Participates in the Juneteenth Celebration held by Allegany County NAACP Branch 7007

As the newly formed Garrett County NAACP Branch, we were honored to participate in the Juneteenth celebration held by Allegany County NAACP Branch 7007.

It was a vibrant gathering, celebrating melanin in all its shades while dancing, laughing, and engaging with myriad folks. This was a breath of fresh air after surviving more than a year of pandemic isolation. What an unforgettable day!

2020 proved to be a year of heartbreak, introspection, and action. It prompted people to stand up. Fast forward to 2021, and though Juneteenth is now officially recognized as a federal holiday, we still stand up. As the credo goes, safe but not silent.

We’ve come a long way. Western Maryland is more united than ever in its pursuit of diversity, equity, and inclusion. A year ago, GCNAACP did not exist. Now, we move forward to help make our rural mountain community a place where everyone feels safe, secure, and welcome.

We’d like to thank our booth volunteers and raffle sponsors:

Thank you all who helped contribute to this beautiful day of remembrance & celebration during the first national holiday of Juneteenth!

Our Vice President, Kate Smith, is coordinating on our end. We need donations for a raffle basket “A Taste of Garrett County” and we also need volunteers to staff our tent during the event.

If you would like to donate or help out, email us @ contact.gcnaacp@gmail.com and we will get your message right over to Kate.
