Japanese American Internment Remembrance Day

February 19th is Japanese American Internment Day of Remembrance.

Today is #JapaneseAmericanInternment Remembrance Day.

Let’s remember internment survivors and all the communities that continue to have their civil liberties violated today. We stand with our Japanese brothers and sisters to never forget.

On this day in 1942, the President of the United States issued Executive Order 9066, which authorized the federal government to incarcerate thousands of Japanese Americans. More than 110,000 American citizens and immigrants of Japanese ancestry were forced to leave behind their homes, businesses, and ways of life.

No Japanese Americans were ever charged, much less convicted, of espionage or sabotage against the United States. Yet they were targeted, rounded up, and imprisoned for years, simply for having the “face of the enemy.”
